Special Session “Smart Cities: Crowdsourcing and M2M Communication for a Connected Society”
Special session organizer:
Vilmos Simon, Head of Multimedia Networks and Services Laboratory, Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), Hungary
Mario Kušek, University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, Croatia
Background and scope:
The urbanization of cities is increasing, and nowadays about 54 percent of the world’s population lives in cities. By the year 2025, this number will be around 70 percent. In big cities, this will put a lot more pressure on streets and traffic control. There is a growing importance of ICT in profiling the competitiveness of cities. There is extensive ongoing research in a wide range of enabling information and communication technologies, including cloud and network infrastructure, wireless and sensing technologies, energy efficiency, mobile crowdsourcing, social networking, and big data analytics for smart cities. The next step for the smart city is the automated city – one that is predictive and responsive without human intervention. Such a city could avoid traffic congestion before it occurs and distribute resources, such as emergency services and maintenance, without time-consuming human decision-making. In this Special Session we will catch up with the latest research and product developments, measurement methods, application scenarios and concept studies.
Authors are encouraged to submit their contributions related to the special session’s main theme – Crowdsourcing and M2M communication – and in particular the topics of interest, listed below.
Topics of interest include:
- Mobile crowdsourcing for urban analytics
- Sensing and IoT for smart cities
- ICT in road vehicles: on-board and connected car services
- Safety, security, and privacy for smart cities
- Crisis and disaster management in smart city
- Human mobility modeling and analytics
- Senseable city networks
- Mobile crowdsourcing applications
- M2M communication architectures and middleware
Paper submission:
Prospective authors are invited to submit novel, previously unpublished full papers (up to 8 pages), addressing the topics of interest, for consideration for the special session. For paper formatting, style, and submission guidelines and deadlines, please refer to the Information for Authors. All papers submitted to the special session will be peer-reviewed according to the rules for the main conference. Paper should be submitted through EDAS.
Accepted and presented papers will be published in the conference proceedings and submitted to IEEE Xplore as well as other Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases.
To see detailed instructions, go to Paper Submission, or to submit a paper, go directly to submission page in EDAS.
Authors of best papers will be invited to submit an extended versions for potential consideration in the Infocommunications Journal (www.infocommunications.hu) for a Special Issue on Smart Cities. The Infocommunications Journal is technically co-sponsored by IEEE Communications Society, IEEE Hungary Section and it is indexed in Scopus, Inspec and Compendex.
